On Tuesday, May 18th, Forsyth County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman, Cindy Jones Mills delivered the 2021 Hybrid State of the County Address. The 2021 State of the County was an event like no other, because 2020 was a year like no other. As Commissioner Mills looked back on the struggles of the past year, she kept seeing one reoccurring theme: collaboration. Despite being socially distant, our community depended on one another and worked together in so many ways to overcome the hardships being presented to Forsyth County during the global pandemic.
The 2021 State of the County Address focused on the theme “Together We Can” and showcased video stories that highlighted many programs and businesses that had significantly impacted our community in 2020 including: Forsyth County Senior Services, Local Restaurants, Forsyth County Public Library’s Book Mobile, the Chamber’s Diversity & Inclusion Initiative, Local Business Owners, Forsyth County’s Mental Health Task Force, and local COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics, coordinated through massive partnership efforts.
Additionally, the program also looked to the future of Forsyth County’s transportation plans and growing elements of higher education. County Manager, Kevin Tanner, shared important information regarding transportation bond project updates and plans for the future. Senator Greg Dolezal and other State Delegation members presented the University of North Georgia with a $1 million check for the expansion of UNG’s Cumming Campus.
