Chamber Co-Hosts First North GA Regional Education Summit

The University of North Georgia, Lanier Technical College, Forsyth County Schools and the Georgia Department of Economic Development gathered on Friday, October 28th from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Forsyth Conference Center to discuss how public education will serve and lead the region for the long term future.

The quality of public education throughout North Georgia is arguably the most critical component of the local economy. Decisions about billions of dollars in private investment from business, homeowners and consumers are made based in large part on the quality of public education systems and access to those systems. With increasing pressure on access to financial resources, increasing competition for talented professors and teachers, growing demands for highly skilled labor and market trends that are moving at a lightening pace, the future of education in North Georgia will have a direct impact on everyone. The North Georgia Regional Education Summit is designed to discuss how public education will serve and lead the region for the long term future.

The day included lunch and an optional tour of schools. There was no cost to attend but pre-registration was required. Speakers included Dr. Bonita Jacobs, President of the University of North Georgia, Dr. Ray Perrin, President of Lanier Technical College, Dr. Jeff Bearden, Superintendent of Forsyth County Schools and keynote, Dr. Dana Rickman, Policy and Research Director of the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education.
